DAY TRIP ROUTES – OUR UNUSUAL OZARKS
Take the roads less traveled through our beautiful Ozarks to explore historic mills, crystal-clear springs, scenic byways, and miles of trails. No matter what the season, you are sure to be amazed at the natural splendor around you.
63 miles to Round Spring: Take Highway 63 north toward Willow Springs. Just before Willow Springs, take Highway 60 east toward Mountain View. After Mountain View, turn left on Highway 17. Stay on Highway 17 for 13 miles to Summersville. At Summersville, turn right on Highway 106. You will pass by Summersville Mill (tours by appointment). In 7 miles, continue straight on D Highway. Go 9 miles then turn left on Highway 19. In 5 miles, the entrance for Round Spring will be on your right.
2.2 miles to Echo Bluff: Continue on Highway 19 to the entrance of Echo Bluff State Park.
13.2 miles to Devil’s Well: Continue on Highway 19 for 9.2 miles then turn left on KK Highway. In 2 miles, turn left on Devil’s Well Road. Devil’s Well will be ahead in 2 miles.
7 miles to Welch Spring: Backtrack to KK Highway and turn left. Go 3.8 miles then turn right on K Highway. Turn left on the first gravel road past the Akers Group Camp. At the end of the road, park next to the river and walk a trail north along the river for about a half mile. At the end of the trail you will be able to see the hospital ruins, although you will be across the river from it.
60 miles to West Plains: Backtrack on K Highway and cross the Current River on Akers Ferry.* Stay on K Highway for 19 miles. Turn left on Highway 17. In 13 miles, turn right on Highway 60. In 14.5 miles, take the left ramp onto South Highway 63.
(*Occasionally Akers Ferry is closed due to gravel deposits on the river. If it is closed, you will need to return to West Plains from the way you came.)
